Bindi Irwin

Bindi Sue Irwin was born July 24, 1998 to Steve Irwin (famously known as "The Crocodile Hunter") and Terri Irwin in Buderim, Australia. As the children of two conservationists — and the grandchildren of naturalist Bob Irwin — Bindi and her younger brother Robert were raised closely interacting with animals from a very young age. (Bindi is actually named after Steve Irwin's favorite crocodile at the Australia Zoo.)

Bindi Irwin's television career began as early as two years old, when she made regular appearances on her father Steve Irwin's TV shows, including The Crocodile Hunter Diaries. Her first film was 2002's The Wiggles: Wiggly Safari, but she has appeared in several more films throughout her life, including Free Willy: Escape From Pirate's Cove and Return to Nim's Island. Her television appearances are more numerous; she hosted her own shows, Bindi the Jungle Girl (2007-2008) and Bindi's Bootcamp (2012-2015), was the Season 21 winner of Dancing With the Stars in 2015, and starred in her family's reality series, Crikey! It's the Irwins, beginning in 2018. Bindi has also dabbled in music, releasing a fitness album for kids in 2007 called Bindi Kid Fitness with Steve Irwin and The Crocmen, a follow-up album called Bindi Kid Fitness 2 Jungle Dance Party in 2008, and a single called "Trouble in the Jungle" in 2006. Now that's what we call multitalented!

In 2006, when Bindi was just 8 years old, tragedy struck the Irwin family; 44-year-old Steve Irwin was killed by a stingray barb while filming a documentary. Despite the trauma, Bindi insisted she wanted to write and read her father's eulogy herself, which she delivered in front of a live audience of 5,000 and a television-viewing audience of over 3 million. Of her decision to give the eulogy, Bindi told Oprah Winfrey, "At dad's memorial, before the event actually took place, I came to Mom and said, 'I would like to do this for myself and for everyone else' and it was something where I personally wanted to say to the world, to anyone watching, to anyone who wanted to hear it that we would be carrying on."

In 2013, a teenage Bindi met Chandler Powell at Australia Zoo, who she would go on to marry on March 25, 2020, in a private ceremony at the zoo. Exactly a year later, on the couple's first anniversary, they welcomed their daughter Grace Warrior Irwin Powell. Though they gave their daughter Chandler Powell's last name, Bindi herself preferred not to take it. “I’ve kept Bindi Irwin,” she said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “I think that for me personally, after dad passed away, it was really important for me to feel close to him, and having his last name means so much to me.”

Bindi Irwin currently acts as CEO for Australia Zoo — the place where she grew up, and is in turn raising her own daughter. She does extensive work for Wildlife Warriors, the charity her parents started in 2002. She is also active in raising awareness of endometriosis, a reproductive condition that plagued her with "severe, unexplained pain" for years until she had surgery to correct it in 2023.
