There’s something magical about the movies, from the elaborate productions to the vivid performances from our favorite actors. And while all acting is about transforming yourself into someone else, it’s always especially eerie to see an actor you love transform themselves into someone else you know — like Ana de Armas’ spooky resemblance to Marilyn Monroe in the film BlondeThat’s a trend we’re about to see a lot more of — and we want to celebrate all the amazing ways actresses have transformed themselves into pitch-perfect copies of other famous figures in the past.

Biopics have been coming out left and right over the past year, from this fall’s Respect featuring Jennifer Hudson as Aretha Franklin to the long-awaited Princess Diana biopic Spencer starring Kristen Stewart — and that’s on top of Jessica Chastain-led The Eyes of Tammy Faye, Will Smith and Aunjanue Ellis-led King Richard (about Venus and Serena Williams’ father), Lady Gaga and Adam Driver-led House of Gucci about the Gucci family, Lily James’ Pam & Tommy series as Pamela Anderson, and Aaaron Sorkin’s Being the Ricardos, featuring Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem as titular couple Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz.

Right now, transforming yourself into a famous figure from the past has never been hotter — and we’re looking at some of our favorite actresses’ movie and TV transformations of all time to really celebrate this art. Whether it be spending months studying everything about the person they plan to portray or dealing with pounds of stage makeup every day for the better part of a year, these actresses commit like no other.

From new actresses portraying Old-Hollywood titans to A-listers taking on historical figures, there’s no shortage of incredible transformations: See side-by-side photos of actresses looking exactly like their characters below.

Caitríona Balfe, Sam Heughan & the 'Outlander' Cast Wrapped Filming for the Last Time & There's a Video https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/articles/3105545/outlander-wrap-caitriona-balfe-sam-heughan/ https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/articles/3105545/outlander-wrap-caitriona-balfe-sam-heughan/#respond Fri, 25 Oct 2024 14:53:00 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?p=3105545 Don’t cry because it’s over, be happy because there are still 18 episodes of Outlander to air in the future. Today marks the end of an era for Caitríona Balfe, Sam Heughan, Sophie Skelton, Richard Rankin, John Bell, and the entire Outlander cast, as they have filmed their final scenes of the series for the last time ever. Okay, fine you can cry a little bit. Outlander began filming 11 years ago in August 2013.

Balfe released a video of her Claire wig being taken off for the very last time, with tears in her eyes. Heughan yells from his make up chair, “Yay! Claire’s gone. Bye Claire.”

Outlander just celebrated filming 100 episodes, a rare milestone in episodic television. And how did they celebrate? By Balfe and Heughan slicing the cake together with a sword, as you’d expect, for this heart-crushing, sword-slaying on-screen couple.

Heughan shared his own wrap day slideshow that contains BTS photos.

The cast has been sharing photos of their final days of filming. John Bell shared this photo of Balfe and himself atop a mountain looking like the most adorable on-screen aunt-nephew team. Lauren Lyle shared a slideshow of her wrap day on Outlander.

Izzy Meikle-Small shared a slideshow of her favorite (non-spoiler!) moments.

The second half of the penultimate season 7 is just 2 months away and the time-traveling hit will be back onscreen November 22 on Starz.

Executive producer Maril Davis chatted with us about the mid-season finale in case you need a recap of what happened in the last new Outlander episode. While you wait, there’s never a better time to start (re) watching from the very beginning.

And just like that, it’s over. September 27, 2024, 11 years after their first filming day.

42 True Crime Movies That Are as Shocking as the Stories They’re Based On https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/slideshow/2283638/best-true-crime-movies/ https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/slideshow/2283638/best-true-crime-movies/#respond Thu, 24 Oct 2024 21:12:18 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?post_type=pmc-gallery&p=2283638 If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, SheKnows may receive an affiliate commission.

We won’t pretend to understand what it is that makes true crime so fascinating. To be honest, we should probably be a little concerned about the way that the true crime genre has spread like wildfire, prompting TV, movies, and podcasts about all the worst, most fascinating crimes ever recorded. But there’s no time to wonder why we love these true tales of murder and madness when new true crime movies are popping up every day and demanding our attention, from Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci to The Boston Strangler and Charlize Theron’s Oscar-winning performance in Monster.

One note about these true crime faves? Make sure your kiddos are in bed and asleep (really asleep) before you click on the evening’s entertainment. Unlike our favorite horror movies, even the scariest of which can be explained away as “all pretend,” these true crime stories may be harder to brush off. On the other hand, if you have a teen or pre-teen, you do have some options for true crime with softened edges — otherwise known as the Hollywood dramatization. Movies like Lost Girls, Spotlight, and Room all tell stories of very real crimes in very real ways, but the familiar narrative style (and familiar actors) can make subjects more palatable than they may have been.

Here are true crime movies that we guarantee will surely capture your attention.

Where the Cast of 'Dawson’s Creek' Are Now & How They’ve Changed Since the Show https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/slideshow/1234725784/dawsons-creek-cast-then-now/ https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/slideshow/1234725784/dawsons-creek-cast-then-now/#respond Thu, 24 Oct 2024 19:34:00 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?post_type=pmc-gallery&p=1234725784 If you’re anything like us, then Dawson’s Creek and its characters Dawson, Joey, Jen and Pacey have a special place in your heart. After all, watching actors James Van Der Beek, Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson and Michelle Williams all grow up onscreen while we were growing up ourselves was, well, too relatable not to love.

So, of course, fans of the show might be shocked to learn that it’s been over two decades since season six of the show came to an end.

“I learned so much and it really informed a lot of how I viewed the business,” Holmes said of her time in the show in a 2021 People interview. “We really did grow up together and influenced each other and I feel mostly just appreciative of everyone.”

So as we pat ourselves on the pack for still remembering full monologues from the show, we’re taking a moment to catch up with the cast now and what they’ve been up to since the show wrapped in 2003.

Check out what the stars have been doing since their days in Capeside below!

Caitríona Balfe, Sam Heughan & the 'Outlander' Cast Tease Life-Changing Events for Their Characters https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/videos/1234724801/caitriona-balfe-sam-heughan-outlander-paley-video/ https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/videos/1234724801/caitriona-balfe-sam-heughan-outlander-paley-video/#respond Wed, 23 Oct 2024 00:43:54 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?post_type=pmc_top_video&p=1234724801 The Outlander cast descended on New York City last week to promote the second half of season 7, and one of their first stops was The Paley Center. Caitríona Balfe, Sam Heughan, Sophie Skelton, Richard Rankin, John Bell and executive producer Maril Davis spilled the season 7 tea to SheKnows on the red carpet. Outlander celebrated its 10th anniversary on the PaleyFest NY panel and the actors reminisced about their last 7 seasons. Balfe and Heughan had some serious advice for their characters that involved a stiff drink and calming down.

Balfe started the interviews and told us her perfect advice for Claire Fraser in part 2 of season 7. Let’s just say, it goes great with a twist and extra olives. “I think I would just sit her down, pour her a stiff martini, and say are you okay, girl?” Advice you can drink — we like it. Balfe also teased her favorite moment in this season that happens right at the end, and hinted at a new character being introduced that would surprise everyone.

We also asked the cast what they thought their favorite theme songs might be for their characters for the rest of the season. Everything from AC/DC to Kate Bush was dropped. Last season Balfe said, “Power of Love” was Jamie and Claire’s theme song. This season was a little darker. Davis slipped up and told us a season 8 spoiler. She said, “Thunderstruck” is Jamie Fraser’s theme song, then quickly said, “No that’s not true, that’s next season, we’ve just played that recently on set.” Davis doled out her own advice to Heughan’s Jamie, “Take a deep breath man, take a deep breath.” And some advice for Balfe’s Claire: “Stand your ground, lady. You did nothing wrong.” Davis finished off by dropping a hot duet on the carpet for Claire this season.

Heughan picked AC/DC for Jamie’s theme music, and hinted, “It’s pretty brutal. I’m just going to tell Jamie to, ‘Take a breath, take a moment, take a second, think about what you’re about to do,’” Heughan hinted at a big moment for Jamie and his loved ones. “He should just breathe out more,” then Heughan showed us a deep breathing exercise. Seems like Jamie and Claire are in for a stressful season. (When are they not in for a stressful season?) When asked if Heughan would be Team Jamie or Team Claire for a big moment between the couple, Heughan didn’t hesitate. “I mean Jamie, of course, right?”

Bell shared his advice for Young Ian, “Follow your heart, chase the girl,” he laughed. When asked if he would get the girl, Bell hinted at a love triangle. Ruh-roh. Then he brought it home by singing, “Holding Out for a Hero,” and did a little running dance to top it off.

Without hesitation, Skelton said Brianna would be in mama bear mode, and picked “Highway to Hell,” as Brianna’s theme song. She declined to sing, saying champagne was needed before she would drop her red carpet album. Fair point.

Rankin, also known as the Outlander interview crasher, did sing for us. He went full-on karaoke on the carpet and we were worried we may never get our tiny mic back. But he sang, “A Hard Day’s Night” by the Beatles. He also told us his piece of advice for Roger. It was one word: “Don’t.” We asked Rankin to expand, and he revealed what he called a “SheKnows exclusive.” He would tell Roger to never go through the stones at all! What?! When Rankin was done singing three verses of his chosen song, he dropped the mic. Literally.

Dropping the mic wasn’t good enough for Heughan. So, he dropkicked the mic, right into Balfe, who can be heard saying, “Oh my god!” off-screen. The tiny mic finally met its match. RIP tiny mic, we hardly knew ye, before Jamie Fraser dropkicked you Balfe in time, er, back in time.

To learn what Balfe’s new song for Claire is, and see Heughan dropkick the tiny mic into Balfe land, watch the video. Outlander season 7, part 2 premieres on November 22 on Starz. While you wait, catch up with Balfe and Heughan’s part 1 interview, and Skelton’s Sam Heughan impersonation. Time flies while waiting for Outlander; before you know it, it will be back to traumatize the Frasers another day.

We Have Outlander’s New Season 7, Part 2 Trailer & Every New Photo From the Show https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/slideshow/3063835/outlander-photos-caitriona-balfe-sam-heughan-season-7-part-2/ https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/slideshow/3063835/outlander-photos-caitriona-balfe-sam-heughan-season-7-part-2/#respond Fri, 18 Oct 2024 20:18:01 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?post_type=pmc-gallery&p=3063835 The much-anticipated second half of Outlander season 7 is just 1 month away, and that’s not soon enough for most Outlander fans. But the new trailer dropped and it’s intense. Claire says, “I would feel it in my heart if his had stopped, mine would stop too.” There’s only one heart she is talking about. And that is Jamie Fraser. No. We are not ready. Or as Jamie would say, “Je ne suis pas prest.” All the new photos of Season 7, part 2 also dropped and we can’t wait. Caitríona Balfe, Sam Heughan, Sophie Skelton, Richard Rankin, John Bell, and David Berry all appear in the new photos and trailer, and we’re going to break down each one. In the recently released teaser, Jamie, Claire and fam look to be facing a lot of blood-curdling screaming drama. (Hi Claire, we’re looking at you). Jamie is punching someone, Claire is talking about sacrificing everything for love, then crying. Roger and Brianna are looking extremely distressed. Fun, Outlander times as usual.

The mid-season finale of Outlander season 7 left Jamie, Claire and Ian arriving in Scotland, and Roger and Brianna dealing with a potential kidnapping of their son. Executive producer Maril Davis helped break down the mid-season finale and hinted about what’s to come in the second half of the penultimate season. With 8 new episodes starting November 22nd on Starz, Outlander is in the final stretch of its long-running television legacy. If you can’t wait until November, watch Balfe and Heughan chat all about this season with us, and at the season 7 premiere at Tribeca Film Festival.

If you need a refresher, and want to walk down season 7’s memory lane, check out all the photos from the first half of season 7 here. But now, let’s break down all the new photos and see if we can piece together what’s to come.

27 Actresses Who Were Way Too Young to Be Cast in These Mom Roles https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/slideshow/2538896/actresses-who-play-moms-to-same-age-actors/ https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/slideshow/2538896/actresses-who-play-moms-to-same-age-actors/#respond Mon, 14 Oct 2024 20:05:05 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?post_type=pmc-gallery&p=2538896 In an industry rife with ageism and misogyny, there have been some seriously incredulous instances of actresses playing moms despite being way too young to do so. In some movies and TV shows, women have starred as moms of other actors who are close to their age or, in some cases, even younger than them!

We don’t know why, but Hollywood seems to have a mental block when properly casting mothers. At first glance, many seem fine — until you see the actor’s ages. You’d think there would be a sizable difference between the actors, but some are as little as 10 months apart.

In 2023, the internet was flabbergasted to see Emmy Rossum cast as Tom Holland’s mother, despite only being ten years older than him. We were left with one question: “Why does Hollywood not know how to cast moms?” From Orange is the New Black to Alexander, there’s a lot more miscasting than you think.

Check out these actresses who were way too young to be cast in these mother roles below.

40 Great Shows Netflix Canceled in 2 Seasons or Less https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/slideshow/2697266/canceled-netflix-shows/ https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/slideshow/2697266/canceled-netflix-shows/#respond Mon, 14 Oct 2024 17:10:47 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?post_type=pmc-gallery&p=2697266 Remember a decade ago when Netflix was the streaming app to watch everything on (and even at one point the only one to get Friends?!) Well, times have certainly changed, because instead of being one of the favorite streaming services, it’s gotten a bit of a reputation over the years. For what, you may ask? Chances are you already know what we mean; Netflix is now known for canceling their original series in two seasons or less.

First, it was Sense8, then it was the Baby-Sitters Club, and now the two newest victims are Unstable and That 90s Show.

When Netflix cancels a show, fans are often left disgruntled and without closure (99.9 percent of the time, there’s an insane cliffhanger we’ll never get the answers to!) We’re in 2024 now, and it’s still looking bleak for Netflix shows.

According to What’s on Netflix, Netflix bases its decisions on renewals and cancellations on how many people watch the show, if/how quickly they finish whatever is released, and budget constraints. However, fans have been recently calling that methodology out, since many beloved shows get axed for virtually no reason.

Take a look back at the good shows Netflix decided to cancel in two seasons or less.

26 Movies That Show Women Having Relationships With Younger Men https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/slideshow/2494104/older-women-younger-men-relationship-movies/ https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/slideshow/2494104/older-women-younger-men-relationship-movies/#respond Sat, 12 Oct 2024 13:52:52 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?post_type=pmc-gallery&p=2494104 If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, SheKnows may receive an affiliate commission.

Anne Hathaway is the latest actress to portray the unique dynamics of an age gap relationship in her steamy rom-com, The Idea of You, which also stars Nicholas Galitzine.

For decades, there’s been a certain relationship trope in movies that we haven’t exactly been a fan of, and that’s men being romantically involved with younger women. Now, we’re not saying that all these films are bad movies — honestly, we’ll watch Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall any day.

But because these types of romances have been so normalized, we really don’t often see enough stories about the opposite: women who have relationships with younger men. And when we do, we talk about them like they’re anomalies or somehow taboo — think The Graduate or Daniel Craig-led The Mother, in which older women pursue their daughter’s romantic interests. Now that’s not to say that we want all relationship with major age gaps to be normalized and some films do a great job of calling out dangerous age gaps between men and women. There is most definitely a line and just like with some romances between older men and younger women, plot lines with much younger men dating an older woman can be uncomfortable viewing.

However, some movies manage to pull off displaying older women as desirable, sexual beings without glorifying power imbalances or inappropriate age gaps.

From hidden gems like The Good Girl, starring 21-year-old Jake Gyllenhaal and 32-year-old celebrity crush Jennifer Aniston to the decidedly darker The Reader, starring Kate Winslet in her Oscar-winning performance, these movies all took a stab at showing the real-world Olivia Wilde-Harry Styles dynamic on-screen, for better or for worse. Read on to see which of your favorite actors have coupled up with slightly-to-much older ladies for a movie romance.
